Some children were so damaged early in their lives, by bad treatment, or abandonment, by the people who should have been taking care of them, that to simply get through their lives they have to construct a perfect persona for themselves, one that can never be at fault for anything.
If you are perfect, the falsely reassuring emotional reasoning goes, then it’s impossible for you to do anything that hurts anybody else, or causes damage of any kind. Even if you do, it was 100% justified because it was a matter of life and death to you. If someone you care about is hurt, or you break something valuable, it can’t be your fault, no matter what. If there are only two of you involved, and the other person tells you that you hurt them — it has to be their fault. The math of this is flawless: I can’t be wrong, you say I’m wrong, therefore you’re wrong and you’re the one hurting me by fucking lying about something I never did!
The only strategy I’ve found for dealing with people like this, once they reveal themselves unmistakably as people compelled to act this way, is to get away from them. Avoid them at all costs. They can’t help, no matter how much they may have come to your aid in the past, they can only hurt. This is because of the above equation — once someone’s feelings are hurt, or other damage is done, they have only one play — blame the other person and furiously attack the aggressor until they give in.
This type demands absolute control of others, since they idiotically believe themselves to be perfect. Their iron-clad opinions are more valuable than any based on mere evidence. Obedience to their will is the only truly inviolable principle they hold — that they are right, can never be wrong, and that they must continually “win” — by controlling everyone around them, because their only alternative is utter, crushing, humiliation. That humiliation is very real to them because they have been humiliated, over and over, at a formative age and their entire life is dedicated to never feeling that agony again.
As long as everything is peaceful with this type, you can believe you are in a loving relationship. It is only when conflict arises, which in my experience it inevitably does, that you see their complete inability to deal with conflict except by blaming others. They recruit allies, launch a full press-campaign to influence all neutrals that they are the injured party, viciously attacked by the one falsely claiming they were hurt by them.
Sadly for all of us, we have this kind of sick puppy in charge of all three branches of the federal government, acting in the service of our nation’s (and the world’s) greediest and most corrupt psychopaths, organized and funded to a horrific extent. We can’t get away from them, at the moment. We can’t avoid Trump’s constant blaming of everyone but his incompetent self for being an endlessly pliable puppet of the world’s other authoritarians, reflexively serving only his unlimited lust for power, money, control and elusive sense of self-worth.
This type is capable of literally everything except compassion or generosity. Trump kowtowed to Chinese dictator Xi, wincing during a flyover he arranged to honor his guest, invited Russian dictator, war criminal and personal benefactor Vladimir Putin to walk a red carpet at the G-20, being hosted again at one of Trump’s many Trump-branded properties. Nothing we can imagine, in terms of destruction, is beyond the capabilities of this desperate type. They’d rather destroy the world than be seen as anything less than perfect.
Vladimir and Donald recently exercised vetoes in new international rules designed to regulate the use of AI-guided weapons of mass destruction. Both agreed that no human needs to have the last word, once AI selects a target. Every other nation insisted on this, but these two autocratic geniuses opposed that provision, for reasons that are obvious. NO! NYET! Superior Intelligence (SI) gets the last word! What could go wrong? (And even if it does, why is that “our fault”?) It went perfectly on the first day of our righteous, if illegal under international and natural law, war against the evil Iranian regime:

We also killed a fetus. A fetus, that sacred unborn soul that our white Christian nationalists here, including six religious zealots on our Supreme Court, all value above the life of the pregnant mother and children already born, especially nonwhite ones.
One of those innocents, mass-murdered in an AI- guided double-tap strike with US missiles, was a fetus, for Christ’s sake.
We took full responsibility for the erroneous missile strike at 11:22 a.m. and the follow up, at 2:30 pm, to make sure any survivors were also converted into chopped meat.
