Louie Gohmert was a Texas judge…

From the great Heather Cox Richardson, quoting one of the most vocally opinionated pinheads in Congress, the honorable Louie Gohmert, on the American right to lie:

Navarro was livid at being arrested and handcuffed and put in a cell, saying that if they had just called him and said they needed him down at court, he’d have shown up. (He appeared to miss the point that the subpoena he ignored is basically a call that says, “Hey, we need you down at the court….”) He claims that authorities have violated the Constitution.

Reacting to the arrest, Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) told Newsmax, “If you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you.” He claimed that the grand jury acquitted lawyer Michael Sussman of lying to the FBI about his contact with Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign with the argument that “[o]f course you’re gonna lie. Everybody lies!” but that is, of course, not true. The jury said that the Department of Justice, which brought the suit against Sussman, did not prove its case. It is against the law to lie to Congress or to the FBI. Navarro has not been tried yet; he has simply been indicted.

You would do the same, if you was them

Fair is fair, what person facing possible criminal jeopardy for criminal conspiracy, aiding and abetting obstruction of n official proceeding, obstruction of justice, etc. would possibly speak to authorities without first having the authorities turn over every piece of evidence they intend to use against them?

So Kevin McCarthy, top Trump loyalist in the House, and always pugnacious former assistant college wrestling coach, Jim Jordan, both refused to comply with Congressional subpoenas unless the January 6th Committee first tells them exactly what evidence they have against them so they will know how to respond, consistently with each other, to questions during their involuntary testimony.

This standard precaution is particularly necessary if the authorities trying to force you to speak under oath are deadly pedophile enemies who are also totally illegitimate and therefore have no right to send subpoenas to anybody that can’t be casually tossed into the toilet with no consequences except an ostentatious flush. Fucking common sense, yo.

MSNBC and CNN as bad as FOX?

A few years ago, right before Covid hit and peak Trump began, I had coffee and went to a lecture with a guy I ran into who I used to be friends with many years back. He became very rich, working as a corporate lawyer, doing mergers and acquisitions. When the subject of politics came up he smiled and told me that MSNBC and CNN were just as slanted as Fox News and that if I was dispassionate and not drinking the anti-Trump Kool-Aid I’d be able to see it.

He assured me if we sat down and watched it together he could point out how many times false information was repeated on MSNBC and CNN and prove his point. I told him that Murdoch’s Fox had been a pioneer in spreading propaganda, mentioned the lawsuits in which Fox defended itself by saying nobody in their right mind would believe this shit is actually true news, it’s clearly opinion etc.

But it wasn’t much of a discussion, because he knew the secret that I was too dense to understand. I suppose that secret is that everything is relative if you’re rich enough not to care about anything but your portfolio. This bit of premature gloating by a Fox opinion host who was recently Trump’s press secretary reminded me of that short, fruitless conversation with my apolitical buddy.

Equally slanted MSNBC treatment of the same story follows.

Herschel Walker on preventing school shootings

My apologies for this non-embedded YouTube video, apparently can’t do it from my phone these days, at least not with the short clip I made. At any rate, check out Jimmy Kimmel’s introduction and reaction to a stunningly incoherent expression of something by leading Georgia candidate for US Senate, and apparent TBI victim, Herschel Walker.

Texas gun law

Why should a Texas teenager not be able to buy a military assault rifle and a case of high capacity clips on his eighteenth birthday? It’s not like he needs to get a permit, pass a road test and buy insurance before he can legally drive a high end Masterati as fast as he wants.

Freedom in the Hang ’em High State demands no less!

In other news of corrupt lawyers

John Eastman’s lawyers argued that their client disagreed with the judge about the 2020 election, and that everything Eastman wants to be hidden from scrutiny should remain hidden from scrutiny, to protect Eastman and his “client”, the corrupt former president.

In their filing, Mr. Eastman’s lawyers wrote that their client disagreed with Judge Carter’s conclusion that he had undermined democracy, arguing that Mr. Eastman truly believed the election was stolen. The filing cited the work of conservative media figures — including the new film “2000 Mules” by Dinesh D’Souza, which fact checkers have described as misleading — as evidence that widespread fraud occurred in the election.

“If, as seemed clear to Dr. Eastman and his client at the time, there was illegality and fraud in the election of sufficient magnitude to have altered the outcome of the election, then far from ‘undermining’ democracy, Dr. Eastman’s actions and advice must be seen for what they were — a legitimate attempt to prevent a stolen election,” Mr. Eastman’s lawyers wrote. “Perhaps Dr. Eastman was wrong about that. But even if he was, being wrong about factual claims is not and never has been criminal.”

If they believed this in spite of Trump’s former gunsel Bill Barr telling Trump on December 1st that the claims of electoral fraud had been investigated by DOJ and determined to have been “bullshit,” then the judge must, arguably rule for the rabid Doctor Eastman, Doctor Eastman’s lawyers argue.

The LEAK was the problem, according to Clarence Thomas

New York Times:

Ginni Thomas Urged Arizona Lawmakers to Overturn Election

Ms. Thomas, known as Ginni, a right-wing political activist who became a close ally of Mr. Trump during his presidency, made the entreaties in emails to Russell Bowers, the Republican speaker, and Shawnna Bolick, a Republican state representative. Ms. Bolick’s husband, Clint, once worked with Justice Thomas and now sits on the Arizona Supreme Court.
