It’s hard to overstate how in-your-face the MAGA/GOP/Trump party is in their support of murderous war criminal Vladimir Putin. Putin and the 2016 Trump campaign, although not found to have left evidence of a chargeable criminal conspiracy, colluded in at least 140 instances, as documented by Robert Mueller. Trump loves the taste of Putin’s nether regions as much as Lindsey Graham loves the taste of Trump’s. As president Trumpie routinely took Putin’s side against US intelligence agencies. Why wouldn’t he?
At a news conference, a day following a secret personal meeting with Putin in Helsinki, Trump clarified his “I don’t know why Putin would” do anything to corrupt the 2016 election, by saying that, obviously, he’d meant the exact opposite. After all, how often do all of us accidentally say the exact opposite of what we mean and are then unfairly given shit about it?
Trump’s PERFECT CALL to newly elected Ukrainian president Zelensky in 2019 asked for help smearing Biden with a fake announcement about Burisma and, by the way, none of the weapons authorized by Congress months ago will be released to Ukraine until you go on US TV and announce a fake investigation into Biden’s criminal activities in Ukraine.
Trump instructed his loyal, Christ loving puppet MAGA Mike to hold up aid to Ukraine while Putin makes advance after advance in his war of aggression against Ukraine. MAGA Mike held up this aid for many months, along with aid to Gaza, Israel and Taiwan, until Democrats promised to shield him from removal as Speaker. Today MAGA Mike lied about it, of course, (doing it this way, he said, was the only way to get Democrats to support aid to Israel, among lies) because, presumably, that’s what Christ would have done.
Here’s Heather Cox Richardson on what MAGA was doing in the House right before MAGA Mike treacherously betrayed them by working with Democrats:
The extremist House Republicans were adamantly opposed to the plan because of their staunch opposition to aid for Ukraine. They wrote in a memo on Wednesday: “This tactic allows Johnson to pass priorities favored by President Biden, the swamp and the Ukraine war machine with a supermajority of House members, leaving conservatives out to dry.”
Extremists Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) vowed to throw House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) out of the speakership, but Democrats Tom Suozzi of New York and Jared Moskowitz of Florida have said they would vote to keep him in his seat, thereby defanging the attack on his leadership.
So the extremists instead tried to load the measures up with amendments prohibiting funds from being used for abortion, removing humanitarian aid for Gaza, opposing a two-state solution to the Hamas-Israel war, calling for a wall at the southern border of the U.S., defunding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and so on.
Greene was especially active in opposition to aid to Ukraine. She tried to amend the bill to direct the president to withdraw the U.S. from NATO and demanded that any members of Congress voting for aid to Ukraine be conscripted into the Ukraine army as well as have their salaries taken to offset funding. She wanted to stop funding until Ukraine “turns over all information related to Hunter Biden and Burisma,” and to require Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to resign. More curiously, she suggested amending the Ukraine bill so that funding would require “restrictions on ethnic minorities’, including Hungarians in Transcarpathia, right to use their native languages in schools are lifted.” This language echoes a very specific piece of Russian propaganda.
Finally, Moskowitz proposed “that Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene…should be appointed as Vladimir Putin’s Special Envoy to the United States Congress.”
Many congress members have left Washington, D.C., since Friday was to be the first day of a planned recess. This meant the partisan majority on the floor fluctuated. Olivia Beavers of Politico reported that that instability made Freedom Caucus members nervous enough to put together a Floor Action Response Team (FART—I am not making this up) to make sure other Republicans didn’t limit the power of the extremists when they were off the floor.
The name of their response team seems likely to be their way to signal their disrespect for the entire Congress. Their fellow Republicans are returning the heat. Today Mike Turner (R-OH) referred to the extremists as the Bully Caucus on MSNBC and said, “We need to get back to professionalism, we need to get back to governing, we need to get back to legislating.” Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) told Juliegrace Brufke of Axios: “The vast majority of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives…are sick and tired of having people who…constantly blackmail the speaker of the House.”
The longest lasting relationship in Donald Trump’s life appears to be his strong bond with Russian strongman, murderer and war criminal Vladimir Putin. The KGB began cultivating Trump as a Useful Idiot back in the late 1980s when they found out he had presidential ambitions and that he was supremely vulnerable to flattery.
Just call Trump a genius and you become his best friend at the moment, do this decade after decade and you’ve made a lifelong friend of a man so insecure that he spends most of his time bragging about his (inherited) wealth, his brilliance, the size of his enormous, virile member (contrary description by Stormy Daniels is just another hateful, jealous lie!) and his claim that the laws don’t apply to someone as great and special as him.
On the second anniversary of Putin’s old-style total war invasion of a neighboring democracy, which he justified as liberating Ukraine from Nazis, and in which he called for the killing of Ukrainian government officials who had thrown out his puppet Yanokovich eight years earlier, Trump‘s handpicked Speaker of the House, a cherub faced hard right Christian fundamentalist theocrat who loves the taste of the big orange guy’s ass, has lawmakers on vacation.
Every effort to keep the Ukrainian military armed and fighting Putin has been blocked by the Trump/Putin MAGA faction in the House. Every MAGA member of Congress takes their orders directly from Trump, as evidenced over and over, and the rest of the GOP is too spineless and afraid of violent retribution against them to vote with the hated Democrats, even after they announce they’re not running for reelection.
No money has been allocated for the continued defense of Ukraine by Ukrainians, even as Putin continues to kill his political rivals and anyone else who disobeys him. These billions of dollars in American military aid, by the way, go directly to American munitions manufacturers, and the people that work for them.No humanitarian aid to the people being slaughtered, and starved in Gaza, in the Israeli far right’s righteous Jihad against terrorism.Trump simply doesn’t care about Muslims, or anyone else, frankly.
Global Nazi types like Steve Bannon, and white Christian Dominionists, assorted fascists and haters of every stripe are united beyond national borders. They slyly use the word “globalist” to refer to the time honored slur against Jews, who they claim control the world to the extreme detriment of good Christians everywhere. This popular Q-Anon-like theory is fleshed out in the 120 year old Czarist forgery The Protocols of The Elders of Zion, still a brisk international seller. But today globalist more accurately describes a worldwide coalition of authoritarians and religious fundamentalist bigots, Putin, Trump, Xi, Orban, Modi, Netanyahu and their ilk. Their propagandists energetically wield their high-pressure fire hoses of excrement, spraying random shit everywhere to keep everybody disgusted, distracted, overwhelmed and trying to clean clingy fecal matter off of themselves.
And so today, after the second anniversary of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, we find ourselves talking about the latest instance of Christian Dominionist Idiocy, Jesus Christ ruling in Alabama (according to a theocratic state Supreme Court) that a fertilized egg is a child. Ukraine is under renewed siege by a modern day Stalin, or Hitler, take your pick, close to 30,000 Gazans are dead as the rightwing/religious coalition in Israel continues its righteous, civilian slaughtering War on Terror, and the US government can offer no help to Ukrainians, Gazans, or anyone else, blocked by the will of one man, Putin’s best ally in the West.
Meanwhile Trumpie hawks a line of Chinese-made gold spray painted sneakers, brags about his luxuriant head of golden hair and praises a leader like Putin who can boldly kill anyone he fucking wants to. And lines up mega-wealthy fascists to pay the almost $500,000,000 he now owes to New York State. Elon Musk was his guest just a few days ago, but there’s also Putin, or Mohammed Bin Salman. There is no shortage of immense piles of shit with billions of dollars to burn to serve their own rabid egos, who might, someday, want Trump to do them a favor, though.
Controversy has been manufactured here in the USA in the case of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The angry MAGA minority has declared itself firmly on the side of no aid to Ukraine and full support, mainly by silence on the matter, for Putin. The vast majority of Americans favor continued aid to embattled Ukraine, an underdog democracy battling a much larger authoritarian invader. Presenting both sides of this fake controversy gives us an opportunity to see how strong a purely emotional story is, and how resistant to Reason, facts and cause and effect the right emotional appeal is.
The case for Putin’s invasion. He has every right to take back territory that he claims is historically his, because — history! As for the claimed lack of a casus belli, Russia’s indiscriminate killing of civilians, the discovery of mass graves, the mistreatment, torture and murder of prisoners of war — it’s war! War is hell. To pretend otherwise is to be a libtard cuck. From an American point of view, why should we spend money we need here to help one side in a war that has nothing to do with us?
For Ukraine — the country was invaded by a foreign power in a war of aggression. Ukraine committed no act to provoke this foreign power, other than resisting that foreign power’s political efforts to overthrow its government, and make it a satellite of Russia as it had been at times in the past. Ukraine is a democracy defending itself against the aggression of a neighboring dictator, one who routinely kills his political opponents in a political system he controls in the manner of an iron-willed Stalin, Mao or Hitler. Putin is using this war against Ukraine to press his larger territorial ambitions, and assert his right to conquer other countries, as countless megalomaniacal conquerors have done in the course of brutal human history. A Putin victory in Ukraine would be a major blow to the safety of the other surrounding NATO countries.NATO has largely kept the peace in Europe since the end of World War II.
Which side you take will be determined largely by the color of the baseball cap you wear to political rallies.For those in red caps, the fact that no chargeable criminal conspiracy was found between Putin and Trump‘s 2016 presidential campaign, in spite of 140 documented instances of coordination between them, in spite of Trump’s pro bono then-campaign manager’s years working for ousted pro-Russian Ukrainian president Viktor Yanokovitch (who fled Ukraine for refuge in Russia after being overthrown for corruption by pro-democracy, Ukrainians), in spite of proven coordination between Trump’s former campaign manager and Russian agents, and the exchange of sensitive polling data for the states Trump later narrowly won, in spite of Russia’s massive social media interference and successful hacks of voting systems (though no votes were changed this time), in spite of Trump having a Russians only meeting in the Oval Office immediately after his firing of James Comey for publicly speaking of allegations about Trump’s ties to Russia, and Trump destroying all notes of his one on one meeting with Putin in Helsinki, proves that “Russia-gate” was a complete and total hoax, political hit job and classic witch hunt and that there is nothing wrong with Putin or his methods.
For everybody else, Ukraine was illegally invaded by a relentless force that also meddles in American elections, as set forth in detail in the Republican controlled Senate investigative report on Putin-related irregularities in the 2016 election, written in response to the Mueller Report. Most Americans, and even a majority of Republicans in Congress, it appears, believe that Ukraine needs and deserves the support of every other democracy in a position to help. The sole argument for denying the support is iron-willed Trump’s unwavering loyalty to Vladimir Putin.
People sometimes give me crap for comparing MAGA to the Nazis. For me, the main point of comparison is that the most illogical argument you could possibly make is good enough for these folks if it rings the bell that stirs their lowest impulses and makes them angry as hell. Once a mass of people is enraged, and that rage can be stoked at will, and they are following an implacable, emotionally infallible leader, they can be convinced to do anything, and they feel right and just and perfect doing whatever is asked of them. Many of them will feel this way even after the wars and mass destruction their leader causes, when history writes the damning verdict on their unfathomable indecency and their willful inability to see what was directly in front of their lying eyes the whole time.
